Clark gets involved with a crime lord named Morgan Edge who hires him to break into LuthorCorp.
What's up with Clark? Clark has been living in
Metropolis for three months since he left Smallville. "Bad"
Clark is known as "Cal"in Metropolis. He is under the influence
of the red krypotonite in his Smallville High class ring, trying to escape
the pain he has caused his family by the accident during the explosion
of his spaceship in the cellar. The affects of the red kryptonite causes
him pain from the burn scar on his chest. The pain is only relieved when
he removes the ring. With the ring removed, Clark calls home from a phone
booth, but won't speak when he hears Martha's voice. "Cal" is
leading a life of crime, robbing banks and ATMs to fund his extravagant
life. He even escapes a full S.W.A.T. team. Morgan Edge, the biggest crime
boss in Metropolis, makes Clark an offer of big money to join him.
What's up with Jonathan? Pete realizes that the
masked gunman's crimes detailed in The Daily Planet are the capers
of Clark. He tells the Kents. Jonathan is determined to go find Clark,
but Martha stops him.
What's up with Chloe? Chloe tries to convince Lana
that Clark is gone and she should move on with her life. Lionel Luthor
requests Chloe meet him at the cave. She thinks its odd, as Lex's funeral
is approaching. Lionel shoots veiled threats at Chloe regarding her job
at The Daily Planet to get Chloe to find Clark's whereabouts. Chloe
visits Clark in Metropolis. She has known the location of his apartment
for months. She tells him that Lana is a wreck and his parents are losing
the farm. In anger, he throws her out.
What's up with Lex? Lex awakens feverish on a deserted
island. He imagines another castaway, Louis, on the island. Imaginary
Louis suggests that either Lionel or Helen set him up to die in the plane
crash. Louis attacks Lex. Fighting back, Lex imagines he kills Louis.
A man from a passing boat sees Lex's bonfire and rescues him.
What's up with Lionel? Lionel eulogizes Lex at
his funeral. Lana sees Clark there, but he disaappears as she approaches.
Helen makes her entrance with flowers to pay her respects to her husband
Lex. Lionel is outraged by her appearance, threatens her, then quickly
leaves. Later at the mansion, Lionel confronts Helen, accusing her of
murdering Lex. She asks him to leave her home.
What's up with Martha? Clark comes back to the
farm, to his loft in the barn. He overhears Martha and Jonathan as they
despair about losing the farm and reminisce about happier days with Clark.
Martha hears Clark in the loft and calls after him. He disappears.
What's up with Lana? Lana tells Chloe she loves
Clark and aims to find him in Metropolis. Chloe tells Lana where to find
him. Clark refuses Lana, he will not return to Smallville. Lana stays
with him. She calls the Kents on her cell phone. On the phone, Clark tells
Jonathan in a rage that the Kents are not his parents.
How it ends: Jonathan is determined to find Clark
or lose him forever. Jonathan takes the hidden octagon key to the cave.
The key elevates into place in the wall. Jor-el speaks to Jonathan about
Kal-el's destiny. Jonathan tells Jor-el that Clark needs more time. Jonathan
says he'll sacrifice everything to bring him back. Rays of energy surround
Jonathan.
In Metropolis, Jonathan finds Clark in Lionel's office
in LuthorCorp. Edge, the crime boss, hired Clark to break into the safe.
Jonathan asks Clark to come home. Clark throws Jonathan into the wall.
Jonathan sternly insists "You're coming home with me now." He
jumps on Clark and they both break through the window of the LuthorCorp
building...to be continued...

All right, folks. Season Three, up in herre. Think of the Season Two finale as a small, chartered plane, hurtling toward the sea. We were all, "It's crashing, it's crashing!" And yes, it looked inevitable. The show was about to flame the hell out, in little scattered bits. But wait, what's this? The show got stuck on an island for three months, went a little crazy, ate some worms, and came back semi-alive, though suffering from some nasty sores and more than a few split ends. Clark has been living large in Metropolis, hitting up fake-looking ATM machines for cash, hanging out at a nighclub with the bartender grandson of Isaac from The Love Boat and committing crimes. He gets hooked up with a crime boss (Rutger Hauer, who has somehow found a way to grow his head to enormous proportions) and buys fancy cars so he can hit on skanky girls he'll never, ever sleep with. Lex, meanwhile, has survived on a tropical island with the help of Lewis, a human version of Wilson the volleyball. Lex goes a little nutty, shows a lot of skin, and eventually tries to kill Lewis in self-defense. But, alas, Lewis wasn't even real. And somehow, some Jamaican dude on a ship saw Lex's fire and came to rescue Ro-bald-son Crusoe. Y'all, Lex was in a bad way. Back home, we figure out that Doctor Dropkick did indeed set Lex up and that Papa Luthor probably had nothing to do with it. He's a magnificent bastard, but he's got a very tiny, still-functioning Grinch heart in there somewhere. Chloe and Lana get into an argument about whether Clark should be left alone. Turns out Chloe knows where Clark is and Lana gets the information out of her after much needless angsting. Clark, of course, is a total asshole to Lana, to his parents (why you wanna go breaking MamaKent's heart? Why, Clark?), and to Chloe (who has, over the summer, adopted a 'Til Tuesday hairdo). MamaKent and Bo Duke get more and more desperate to find Clark, and they're losing the farm, by the way. Bo decides to go find Clark, but first he has to go visit the caves. Why? Who the hell knows. But it's fortuitous, because he gets to have a nice chat with Clark's biological dad and is bestowed with superpowers somehow. Yes, you read that right. Bo is now Super. He goes to Metropolis to confront Clark and last we see, they're hurtling out of a window together, joined in a father-son embrace. It's "To Be Continued..." How will Bo stop Clark next week? My best guess: A massive bovine army.

Under the influence of red kryptonite and living in Metropolis, Clark gets involved with a crime lord named Morgan Edge who hires him to break into LuthorCorp. Meanwhile, desperate to put his family back together, Jonathan takes drastic measures to bring Clark home. At the mansion, Lionel accuses Helen of killing Lex. Kristin Kreuk, Allison Mack, Sam Jones III and Annette O'Toole also star.

Saleswoman: Where you from?
Clark: Someplace I'm trying to forget.
Morgan Edge: Nice scar - how'd you get it?
Clark: My father's a real bastard.
Lionel: You know, Helen, black widows may be powerful predators . . . but every predator is someone else's prey.
Lex: No, Louis, you're a psychopath.
Louis: Well, there's one in all of us – I just let mine out.

Ultimately, good episode. A little lackluster, but perhaps necessarily so, because this opener was pure exposition for what's clearly to come in the following show. Still, it sets up the one-two punch, and even though the punch hasn't come yet, they're sure as hell promising that it will. (more...)

The word "exile" was used by both Lionel and Chloe.
When the ring first reacts to the scar, we see Kal-El go into a phone booth and reveal the "S" on his chest.
The WB and Verizon Wireless presented a series of short scenes starring Maggie Sawyer (Jill Teed) and Daily Planet Editor Max Taylor. The two are tracking down Clark, dubbed "The Urban Legend," who's been terrorizing the city throughout the summer.
